Beyond the Spotlight
Vivek Oberoi, a Bollywood star and animal enthusiast known for his performances in Company and Saathiya, discusses the remarkable affinity he has with his pets, a King Charles Cavalier and a rescued desi cow. For Vivek, animals are more than simply pets; they provide him joy, comfort, and inspiration.
Vivek, incorporates his love of animals into his daily life. Two extraordinary pets live in his home: Luna, a 2-year-old King Charles Cavalier, and Kamadhenu, a 4-year-old Malnad Gidda cow saved from an abattoir. "Every pet becomes a part of your own family," he shares. "The unconditional love they give is truly unmatched by humans."
His mornings are filled with their positive energy, a ritual he cherishes. “Starting the day with them totally brightens up my day,” he adds. Luna, a playful pup with a love for her toy collection, especially enjoys playing fetch, a simple game that never fails to excite her. “She picks toys out of her basket according to her mood, but somehow a simple ball is her absolute favourite.” Kamadhenu, on the other hand, finds joy in being brushed and strolling in the garden, grazing happily.
Travelling with Luna means car rides rather than flights. “She’s very good with cars, and we make it a point to visit pet-friendly places,” Vivek shares. He avoids air travel for her, knowing it might be too stressful. His approach to his pets’ well-being extends to their diets as well—Luna enjoys treats from Bark Out Loud by Virat Kohli, while Kamadhenu’s diet is pure and wholesome: fresh veggies, fruits, grass, and grains.
Regarding their unique times together, Vivek thinks positively about their unforgettable celebrations. "They react as though they're a part of the celebration because they somehow know it's a special occasion," he explains. And even though he manages a hectic production schedule, he treasures coming home to their warm reception. "It's so special to see their happiness at being reunited," he says. "It's adorable to watch them become possessive about their time with me."
Vivek has a strong interest in animal welfare in addition to taking care of his own pets. He says, "Kamadhenu was a rescue." "We prevented the abattoir from taking her."
In line with this commitment, Vivek has established an animal shelter, home to over 300 rescues where, alongside friends and volunteers, he ensures every animal receives love and care.
For Vivek, pets are truly invaluable. His advice for new pet owners? “Your pet is the best relationship you can invest in. They bring a family together and provide unconditional love, especially in sad moments. The love you give them, they return infinitely!”
